About Senior Living
As a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly, Tranquility House serves as a gateway for seniors moving towards a more dependent point in their lives.
We understand that for families this can be a very stressful, emotional, and often confusing time in their lives.
There are many decisions to be made that will have a profound impact on the future of the family. Based on our experiences, here are some suggestions on how you and your family can successfully make the transition facing you.
- Recognize that as seniors lose mobility they lose their independence. They will go through a grieving process, much like they do when they lose someone close to them. Be patient and supportive as they process the change they’re going through. Encourage and reassure them that they are as valuable to you now as they have always been.
- Have open discussions with them about their wishes should they become incapacitated before it occurs. Where do they wish to live geographically? Nearest to which family members? Who will care for their pets? What will happen to the personal possessions they’ve accumulated? Addressing these issues before hand will alleviate much of the stress that occurs when the all important decision of where they are going to live is facing you.
- When they do move into a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly, make their surroundings as familiar and comfortable for them as you possibly can. Pictures, books, mementos, collections…bring what you can comfortably place in their new environment. This helps them immensely by adding the very important element of familiarity to their new home.
- Talk with them about the happy times they’ll be having. Sharing experiences with people of similar age, spending time with their children and grandchildren, games, walks, music, reading, television, computers…many choices they’ll have available to them for spending enjoyable days at their new home. Let them know how special they are and that they will be living with other special people that they will get to know and appreciate, just as they will be appreciated.
Please feel free to ask us about any concerns you have. No questions should go unanswered. We will do our best to provide you with all of the information you need to make this transition a smooth one for all family members.
